What is a quote?
A quote is an early price estimate that tells someone how much something might cost before they decide to buy it. It includes the date it was created and how long the price is valid, so the buyer knows when the offer expires.
For example, if Clara asks how much ten hotdogs would cost, John Hotdogs can give her a quote dated March 1 that says the $50 total is good until March 5. Having those dates written out helps Clara decide in time and lets John plan his supplies.
